We like our Smith24 specialists to know their favourite destinations like the back of their elegantly tanned hands, so we sent honeymoon expert Claire Wilson off to explore Siem Reap, Cambodia. She stayed at stylish Viroth’s Villa and sophisticated Shinta Mani Club, admired the seriously impressive architecture of Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom, and sent us back these snaps…

‘Shinta Mani Club does some really amazing work with the local community there, from training local staff to offering educational programmes. It’s a more responsible side to tourism, which I thought added something different to the hotel and made the stay feel more personal and unique.’ —CW

‘This is the back of the famous Ta Prohm temple. It’s the most amazing place but go early before it’s completely swamped with tourists. The guide I had was great, and he showed me the sides of the temples where most visitors don’t bother going, so I could get nice photos like this!’ —CW

The West Gate of Angkor Thom

‘Angkor Thom (the main part of the ancient city) is in the shape of a square and has these gates on each of the sides of the city walls, with a big face on each. They’re amazing big arches; this one is the West Gate (as seen in the Tomb Raider films).’ —CW
