It’s that time of your when we start to regret all that festive over-indulgence and the thought of wearing swimwear by summer inspires pearls of sweat to appear on our foreheads faster than you can say ‘Book me that spa break!’

So here are a few of our favourite spa retreats in Blighty to whet your appetite (no, not that one) for a healthier spell…

Aquarias Spa
WHATLEY MANOR

Easton Grey, Malmesbury, Wiltshire

Don’t be deceived by the historical look of this manor-house hotel – Aquarias and its part-inside, part-outdoor hydrotherapy pool is pure 21st-century.

A taste of the treatments: Aquarias has all the classics such as beauty treatments from La Prairie, but here’s your chance to stray from convention. Take a detoxing whirl in the Serail mud chamber, sign up for a skin-smoothing salt scrub, and decamp to a Camomile Steam Grotto for the final word on relaxation. You need to be a member or a hotel guest to book.

C.Side Spa
COWLEY MANOR

Near Cheltenham, Gloucestershire

A beautiful modernist spa and green-slate-lined pool set in acres of glorious countryside around the corner from the celebrated spa town of Cheltenham.

A taste of the treatments: Hydrating, deep-cleansing and toning are all buzzwords on their spa agenda. Their exclusive range of aromatherapy-based products get to work via wraps and face and body treatments; mums-to-be should sign up for Coming Soon which incorporates uplifting acupressure.

CHEWTON GLEN

New Milton, Hampshire

The award-winning spa at this classic New Forest coastal retreat has a magnificent hydrotherapy pool as its centrepiece.

A taste of the treatments: Stars of the spa show are exclusive chemical-free facial treatments by skincare expert Linda Meredith and body treatments by Molton Brown – the signature being the Ultimate Relax, which incorporates exfoliation and massage. The woodland view is a winner, and now there are even richer pickings for botany lovers. From this month the spa is offering an array of treatments using homegrown organic plant extracts and essential oils.

Weekenders spa packages introduced, incorporating the following treatments:

Equilibrium (four-hour treatment programme)
Re-establish the body and mind energy which have been lost during
stressful weeks at work or home, with a two-hour ‘Bio Rhythm’
treatment, followed on your second day by a two-hour ‘Chakra Well
Being’ blissful nurturing session, which includes a massage, facial and
chakra healing.

Rejuvenation (two-hour treatment programme)
Experience a stress relieving ‘Kundalini Massage’, which works on the
nervous system and is particularly beneficial if you suffer from
tension. Followed by a ‘Haute Couture’ facial.

Detoxification (two-hour treatment programme)
Start your weekend with a personal training session, designed to match
your needs and evaluate your existing fitness programmes, followed with
a choice of either a ‘Deep Tissue Massage’ or a ‘Seaweed Body Wrap’.

Spirit (two-hour treatment programme)
Enjoy a one-to-one yoga session with our expert teacher, learn to
listen and respond to your body’s movements and calm your mind.
Followed by a traditional ‘Lomi Lomi Hawaiian Massage’ .
